Peer Review

Journal of Language Education and Literacy (JLEL) employs a fully online system for manuscript submission, tracking, and peer review. All submitted manuscripts must adhere to JLEL’s submission guidelines and are processed according to this Peer Review Policy.

Selection of Papers The JLEL Editorial Board is committed to an efficient, transparent, and timely peer-review process. Submissions are selected based on the quality, originality, and scientific rigor of their content. The topic of the manuscript must strictly align with the Focus and Scope of JLEL.

Selection of Reviewers Reviewers are selected based on their proven expertise and publication track record in the manuscript's relevant field. The Editorial Board carefully evaluates potential conflicts of interest to ensure an unbiased review process.

Each research article undergoes a double-blind peer-review process by at least two independent external reviewers. If conflicting recommendations arise or additional expertise is needed, the Editor-in-Chief may assign a third or subsequent reviewer. JLEL adheres strictly to COPE best-practice guidelines to prevent fraudulent peer review and maintain reviewer integrity.

Review Process and Decisions Reviewers evaluate manuscripts based on the following criteria: clarity of aim and scope, novelty, theoretical grounding, methodological rigor, scientific impact, accuracy of conclusions, and quality of references. The average time for the peer-review process is 4 to 8 weeks.

Upon completion of the review, reviewers' constructive feedback is forwarded to the corresponding author. The Editorial Board evaluates the reviewers’ comments and makes one of the following final decisions:

  • Accept Submission (without revisions)

  • Revisions Required (minor or major revisions)

  • Resubmit for Review (substantive revisions required followed by a second round of review)

  • Decline Submission (rejection)

The final decision, along with detailed reviewer feedback, is communicated to the corresponding author via the online system.

Plagiarism Screening To ensure original content, all submitted manuscripts are screened for plagiarism using Turnitin prior to being sent for peer review. Manuscripts exceeding the journal's similarity threshold (maximum 20%) may be rejected outright or returned for revision.

Confidentiality and Double-Blind Policy JLEL strictly enforces a double-blind review policy, wherein both the authors' and reviewers' identities are kept anonymous throughout the process. The Editorial Board is responsible for protecting the confidentiality of all submitted manuscripts, correspondence, and reviewer reports.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest The Editorial Board, reviewers, and authors must comply with JLEL's Conflict of Interest policy. Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript will not be used in an editor's or reviewer's own research without the explicit written consent of the author.
